“Too loud.”
 “Too introverted.”
 “Too much.”
 “Too little.”
 “Not good at this.”

These are the labels children often hear—through grades, comments in the schoolyard, or society’s judgments. And for children with fewer resources, these labels appear even more often, ignoring a vital truth:

It’s not the child that is limited. It’s the context.
None of us are born with any of these labels.

Well-being, resilience, and potential are not things we need to search for outside ourselves—they already exist within every child. What’s often missing is not their ability, but the support, community, and understanding that allow these inner resources to flourish.

A Leadership Lesson

This is also a crucial lesson for leadership.

Labeling people is easy:
 “not capable,” “too complicated,” “not ready.”

Many HR practices reinforce exactly this—assigning people labels, whether based on performance, seniority, or psychometric tests. But real leadership is not about reactively categorizing people. It’s about creating the conditions that let people grow toward a shared goal.
